I've been trying to go surf fishing for several weeks and yesterday I managed to go. I bought shrimp and ballyhoo the night before at the supermarket. Left Fortaleza to Cumbuco Beach at 7:30AM, 20-25 miles away from my apartment. It's a beach between Fortaleza and Pecém Beach, where I tried surf fishing with a rod and reel for the first time months ago. As soon as we arrived there and I started getting ready it started raining hard and stopped after a few minutes.
The shrimp was smelling funny but I baited the two hooks with half a shrimp each and started casting. Ahhh... I was enjoying the sand and waves after months of abstinence. I was catching different kinds of algae, until this yellow guy bite:
This is the second saltwater specie of fish I've ever caught
While I was fishing my mother-in-law bought grilled coalho cheese, hmmm
Some time later the line broke off due my lack of casting technique
I tried to use a pyramid sinker (4 or 5oz) and shrimp again but only caught more algae
Then I decided to try something new. Grabbed a Gulp! bloodworm (bought months ago), cut it in 3 and put them on my hooks... they're much easier to hook than the 2" Gulp! shrimps that I've tried 2-3 times before.
I need to learn how to properly hook them.
On my first cast or in one of my first casts using the bloodworm I caught this fellow
This is the biggest fish I've ever caught and the first ever on artifical bait
He hit a 2" or so piece of Gulp! bloodworm
I replaced the bloodworm and caught different species of algae, until the line broke off again and I decided to stop and go have lunch. We had grilled pargo at the restaurant on the beach. Hmmm
