When the wind is gonna blow, where do you go...
Well for us its was a no brainer and inshore was the answer. Was with Ariln (jigman on the board here) and his dad Roland. My boat was in the shop getting some maintenance done that was much needed so we went in Arlin's boat. Headed to the river in search of some Trout and Flounder. With the new moon and NE wind the high tide was a foot above where it should be and I knew that it would be tuff but doable.
Arlin's dad, Roland had a thing with not keeping Flounder on his hook and Arlin and I both hoped to end that today and with a little luck we would. First spot we got a couple of keeper Trout and a few Sharp Nose Sharks and it was moving in the current. By the tine we got to the second spot the tide had gone slack and so did the bite.
Third spot the current was back to moving and we got a nice Trout in the seam water before it was time to move.
Next spot, I got hung on the bottom first cast and broke off. Roland had trown near me and said he was hung but his rod tip said something else...
Roland's Flounder didn't get away...
This one looked like it liked milk and had a white mustache...
With lots of little Croker bite, it was time to move again, this time to a Drum bank to see if we could get a slam but there was no love as the little Trout got in the way so another move was in order.
With the tide on the fall, I eased us into the cove and the big Trout were busting on top and before the anchor came tight, Arlin had the first one on a top water bait, about 3 & 1/2 pounds...
Sorry, very bad angle on the picture, I hope Arlin will have a better one...
Very next cast, he this one about 4 and 1/2 takes the top water...
I now make the mistake of moving the boat so Roland can get to the fish and in doing so the bite moves to where we can no longer get to it in the shallow water. We stay and fish some more and I lose one on the popping cork and shortly after that, Roland finds another Flounder that stays hooked but I did not get any pictures of it.
Just as I was about to say, "lets move" my MirrOlure get slammed with a heavy tail shake and I'm on with what I thought was a nice sow Trout with the heavy tail shakes but soon find out its no Trout...
Yep, this nice 23 & 1/2 " Flounder made the mistake of eating my Catch2000, as we got it into the net, the heat shake throw the MirrOlure Into the net's webbing...
We make one last short move for another Trout and I lose a nice one and as luck would have it...Roland lands another Flounder to end the day. With darkness coming we make the hour run back to the dock and load the boat on the trailer. A great day with great friends that I will look forward to fishing with again...
