What's up with the #2 treble hook?
I'm not talking about surf fishing although I've done it before. It really is a lot of fun. But I'm talking about The Florida fresh and salt water Game commision. They say your not supposed to use a# 2 treble hook to catch Snook. I know that Snook is a game fish and by the way excellant on the table as well. But in my day I've seen a snook bend an eagle claw straight. For goodness sakes if you don't use a # 2 treble you may as well go fishing for guppies. LOL And another thing if you can't use them why do they continue to sell them? So just for your info I always keep a knife handy to cut my tackle. Because the game warden comes around now and again. Please don't get me wrong I don't fish out of season for them or take ones that are to little. The big freeze in the 70's hurt the snook population and it took years for it to recover. And still fishing for them hasn't been the same since. But like I said geez. The eagle claw dosen't stand a chance when you have a 10 pound and up snook on the other end.

#1 Croaker Hunter
If you snook fish then you know how many are lost. By the time you feel the thump, the bait is already swallowed. If using a treble, then odds are the fish is gonna be throat hooked and die.
It is not illegal to use trebles on artificals, just natural bait.

Your right 'Thump" and the baits gone
I'll tell you though I've tried using lures for catching snook and I haven't had a bit of luck with them. Maybe you could suggest a type I could try? I've always used good old live shrimp. They seem to love them. But I'm opening to anything new that would improve my numbers. And for the down the throat thing I've caught more than my share of snook and it usually ends up in the upper or lower mouth or the gills. Which as you know you have to be careful with. Tha's why I always use a 12 to 16 in steel leader. I'm there to fish not play with them.
