    What type of fish?

Quick question.... I am on St. Thomas and about 75 yards off shore from where I am staying is a reef that comes up to about knee deep. In the evening time I have been seeing several fish working the reef. The distance between the dorsal fin and the tail fin is at least 36" and probably longer, the fins stick up out of the water quite a ways also. I have fished the reef in the morning and night and only caught yellow tail snapper. Anyone with ideas? I would try to get pics but my camera only has 3X zoom... I would like to know what I'm missing out on! Thanks

The fins from my view would be black or very dark. They were not appear to be long body wise, but they stood about 6 to 8inches out of the water on the dorsal and about 1/2 that for the tail fin. I actually thought it might be a rooster fish until I remembered they arn't in the Atlantic side. Thanks

Never had one, I was a lineman.
Tarpon or Permit would be my guess. I've seen a lot of both down there around St. John
