    Trout or Drum?

What do you enjoy catching more, a Speckled Trout in the 20in. range or a Drum in the 20in. range and why? Its getting that time of year where many go "Trout Crazy"...but me, I'm up in the shallows trying for Mr. Spot-Tail any time I'm out! How about you guys?

I'd take a puppy drum over a spek any day. Better fight, and better tasting, in my opinion.

you can catch reds any time in our local waters

Im after the elusive trophy size trout exclusively this time of year. The migratory fish are a tougher bunch in my opinion and I like the challenge...

Much better fight! Heck, I think a 14in. Drum would out fight a 20in speck no question. I catch a lot of Rock where I am also and they are decent fighters too, about like a Drum. As far as taste, we blacken a lot of trout that my dad catches and it is pretty good. It's been quite a while since I've eaten Drum... I release most of the slot Drum that I catch, cause they're so pretty!

Yep. The Trout, especially the nicer ones, definitely seem to be more finicky and more of a challenge to catch..

Well this one surely didn't have trouble! although he did bring his head completely out of the water to crash my saltwater mullet... I was wading way back in a marsh when this one inhaled my Spook..I had also forgotten to bring any pliers and could not remove the deeply impaled trebles. This was my first one on top-water and the one that I will probably always remember the best.

It's all about the Trouts from Sept. through Jan. June, we have some of the best top water Trout fishing there is. Trout on top water is the coolest there is, sometimes the suck it under and you don't know hw is even on till the drag screams, other times they will knock it out of the water and loose sight of it.
When a big ole sow Trout hits you MirrOlure, drag screams, rods bend and she will wallow on the top before she goes down and digs all the way to the boat. You gotta love the first Ker-thump of her tail when she takes your lure and digs away from you.
If you think the hunt for Red Drum it tuff...meet ye ole Trout, the elusive of the elusive in the inshore fishes. Hide all summer, disappear in the spring, only to be found by a small few the seek out its haunts. Red Drum are more predictable and less elusive than the Speckle Trout, making the hunt tougher and more exciting.
As far as table fair, the Trout has it over the Red Drum by miles, better texture and taste. Red Drum get amnesty from me all the time, Speckle Trout are not so lucky and get amnesty on rare occasions...
    MirrOlure when big fish count!
