SFC's own Wave Loudly (Brian ) is participating in and helping organize the 4th annual Tide Waters Kayak Association charity tournament benefitting project healing waters.
I'm not real good at this sort of thing... But Project Healing Waters touches me deeply because not only am I blind, but I am married to a gal that put a little over 20 years in the Air Force.
How can you help? I guess that it depends on how good your imagination is...
Primary money maker for this event is entry fees. Last year the club waved entry fees for the folks from Project Healing Waters, maybe this year we could look for sponsors.
Getting people to enter the tourney is an incentive thing, The club has some pretty cool prizes in the divisions (Kayaks for first place winner), but those are for the top placers. Since this is a growing sport, might be nice to have some prizes for those that don't make the top three.
At the awards ceremony and banquet there will be a raffle. If there are a lot of prizes to be won there, novice yak fishermen might enter because they think they have a shot at going home with something. So, raffle prizes would be something neat. (Lures, discounts on anything related to fishing...)
Then there is the "Captain's Bag". Little items for those that participate. Heck, if someone were to donate a few cases of bottled water it would probably be a hit with the entants. Kayakers are somewhat simple in their needs, so the simple things are appreciated.)
As far as the offe for flies, I think a set of flie tied by proffesionals such as yourself Lee would be a cool prixe. Though if we checked, Project Healing Waters might like to have materials to tie some. (I'm just guessing here because as I said, I'm not good at this sort of thing.)
Thank you SFC for doing anything you can to help us make this tourney meaningfull. I'd like to show the world that only a small mind thinks the "disabled" can't fish!
I LIKE WHAT I SEE HERE WAVE.....VERY COOL WHAT YOU ARE DOING .....A GREAT FREAKING CAUSE YOU HAVE BRO...
I WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR A TEAM WITH ENTRY FEE ASSISTANCE ....NAMELY YOU ... ....I AM CERTAIN THERE ARE OTHER YAKERS WHO COULD USE A JUMP START HERE AS WELL ........ SO MAYBE SOME OTHER YAK FANS CAN CHIP IN A BUCK OR TWENTY
I WOULD ALSO BE HONORED TO ADD A LITTLE POCKET CHANGE ON TOP OF THE FEE TO HELP FILL UP THE TOURNY BAGS ....
PLEASE POST UP AN ADDRESS WHERE ME AND OTHERS CAN SEND SOME LOVE BRO.........
THE FOLLOWING IS A QUOTE OF WAVES' FIRST POST ON SFC BACK IN JAN 06
WAVE LOUDLY AND I QUOTE :
Hello! Been fishing since I can remember. I am near totally blind (thus when you see me, you have to "Wave Loudly", or I won't know you're there! LOL), so I have no boat, unless you count the kayak, but that's as adventurous as I get on my own. So, I tend to stick to charters. (Yes WAHOONBOX, I think we met once a few years back). I mostly fish the lower Chesapeake, or the upper Keys. I hope to absorb some great info from this site, and maybe add something to it.
OKAY WAVE .....WE FISHED FOR THE GIANTS TOGETHER ON THE ORIGINAL 36 RUN-OFF WAY BACK WHEN ...RIGHT?
MY QUESTION TO YOU IS: HOW DID WE DO ON THAT TRIP?.... IT WAS DURING THE TAG-A-GIANT DAYS I'M SURE ..........DID WE FIND YOU A GIANT?
I think donations are tax deductable, so it is probably best to go through the Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association directly instead of through me. The web site is http://tkaa.org . (I don't have my reader set to read and navigate everything on the site, but I was tolk that the information is there.) My username on that site is Sea Knot (I can't stay away from blind jokes! LOL)
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me, and I will try to find out the answers.
(Oh and Box, yes we did fish the Run Off, but we didn't hook up with a Giant.)
