    Tarpon, where to and when??

Don't know if I'll make it anywhere special with the fly rod in 2007 or not, but a guy can dream can't he?

When and where can a guy go for tarpon on the fly. I mean 10 shots a day.

The Keys, Yucatan MX, Belize, Florida gulf coast, Texas gulfcoast, South Western Carribean...etc... When and Where else????

Someone tell a story of where you've been and why it should be on my list.

Bonefish, permit, and snook are just fine, but I want a bunch of tarpon on a 3 or 4 day trip. Where should I go???

    Thanks!!

    Dave,

I can't cast the long rod, but I'll take my spinning gear if you find the right locale, I'm in.

I've always done well under the bridges in the Keys in April/May. But I'm a bait fisherman, what the hell do I know?

    Rob-

Let's pick a date, pack some thermz and head south. How shallow can the regulator go? My boat would be perfect but it's brown....brown=hot as hell in Florida.

I guide in Key West and we have some great tarpon fishing here usually beginning sometime in April thru July.It is not uncommon to get 10 shots a day, however you must practise throwing a 11 or 12 weight with a rather bulky fly at least 50 or 60 feet.It doesn't sound like a big thing, but I haul alot of folks who spend a lot of money that jump on the bow of my skiff and can hardly get the fly line out of the rod tip.The first time you attempt to load a nine foot 12 weight rod shouldn't be when there are 6 100 + pound fish in 3 feet of gin clear water comming straight at you.

I'm in! I don't know about taking the new Kencraft down and tearing up the new zookies on the back on all the skinny water. She draws quite a bit for a 23 footer. Anyway, we'll chat and figure this out. It's one of those fish on my list that I need to scratch off

We get them here in Ft. Myers (just south of Boca Grande). They start running here about fathers day. We site fish the schools along the beach. I don't waste my time in the pass with the 500 other boats and you can't fly fish there anyway.

    Oh crap...i thought it was a regulator...Polish....

Thanks for the ideas guys the wheels are turning.

I had a good amount of practice casting a 12wt. in belize last fall. Most of it blind casting at night so I don't know how pretty it was, but a tarpon and two permit fell for it. Broke off the tarpon...he was a haus.

Let's see some pics and stories here guys. No one can resist the lure of the KING!
