Surf Fishing Hilton Head, SC

I am going to be in Hilton Head, South Carolina for Thanksgiving and want to get a few mornings and evenings in on the beach fishing.
Lat time I was there I watched a guy reel in a small blacktip shark and I was excited for him. I need advice and tips and any help at all.
I will be staying in Shipyard in Beachwalk and fishing the beach right behind the Crowne Plaza on the beach. I will walk up or down the beach to get away from the crowds.
What bait should I use? I don't care what I catch I just want to have fun catching something. Like I said I will be fishing early in the morning (4 or 5) and in the late evening like 8 or 9.

What kid of fish should I expect for that time of year? What bait and rigs should I use and how far out should I try to get? Again any help or advice would be appreciated.

I am also interested in fishing inland and don't really know what there is in Shipyard or on the island at all. Any help here would be appreciated as well. Thank You in advance.

I was just down in HHI for 2 weeks...the last week in Aug. and first week in Sept. I’ve always fished the sound and have never fished the beach, but I caught a bunch of sharks (black tip, sand, hammerhead, bonnet head and reef) and rays with the surf rods. I was using fresh mullet and preferably live mullet.

On the lighter tackle I caught red drum, sea trout, sheepshead, flounder, blues and even a couple of spanish mackerel. The blues and mackerel were caught using spoons or spinners everything else was caught using finger mullet and shrimp....Good luck

If you can get to the south end of the island in Sea Pines, fish the cut to the ocean. However, the true secret fishing in HHI is the bay behind Shelter Cove mall. That area of HHI is full of irrigation drains that lead to Calibogue Sound. Behind Shelter Cove Mall, Sea Pines Plantation, and in Shipwalk there are all types of little ponds that look like freshwater, but are saltwater. They are slam full of huge flounder, redfish, trout, and even tarpon. They come in through the irrigation drains and just stay in there. If you cast net some finger mullet, keep them alive with an aerator and fish those ponds. You will be amazed at the fishing. It's like fishing a little farm pond thats full of big saltwater fish.
