Hello there. Im a costarican sport fisherman myself and id recommend you stick to the lures. Get some diving stickbaits like rapalas xrap in 10, 12 and 14, get some bomber long a's, stock yourself up with white 3/4 and 1oz jigs and white, pink and orange swimbaits. Of course rangers and big surface spoons are always good too.

what places do you go to? I might help you further with the lure selection if I know which area you are visiting.

    greetings and good fishing,

I just read your info on surf fishing, It's nice that you take time to give such great information. I will be in Costa Rica in November of 2010. I will be staying in Nicoya. Where on the Pacific coast closest to Nicoya would I find the best surf fishing?

I fish the Surf sometimes near Sierpe. I like fishing with medium sized surface poppers or medium sized "walk the dock" stickbaits. All the lures in marioangler's picture are good as well. Fishing the very end of an outgoing tide or beginning of an incoming tide that occurs early in the morning or late in the afternoon is best. The calmer the sea, the better as well.

As for bait, if you can get your hands on some live sardines or mullet you'll have the best bait possible for jacks, snook, and roosters. Cast them out past the breakers and free line them. Dead ones can work as well. Pieces of black tuna can work also, but you need to place it into a deeper hole to catch snappers or groupers.

    Hope this helps - Cassidy
