surf fish west end, south shore, long island
pretty new to the whole surffishing thing, i mainly fish offshore but dont have a boat here in ny as i am in college. wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to where to fish in close proximity to hofstra university during the fall striper run. Also tackle suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks

I've got Banannas
jones beach state park is just down the meadowbrook parkway from hofstra, robert moses which is the westernmost end of fire island (there is a small bridge), the state boat channel, all over the great south bay. a zillion places. suggest searching the web for stripers, or stripped bass, long island. there are a few local websites devoted to surfishing. or ask at causeway tackle which is down the wantagh parkway from you. jones and causeway tackle are maybe 15-20 minutes drive at most from hofstra.

htwoopup is right, you can go almost anywhere and catch fish. If you have a car, take a trip out to Montauk sometime. Get there before sunrise with a few yellow darters or bucktail (Oct-Dec is best) and watch the action. It's amazing. If you have korkers to grab the slick rocks, under the lighthouse is best otherwise try the edge of the cove. The action is usually insane!

Try a needlefish from Montaul and you'll find a little piece of heaven or fathead swimmers off the south shore. Life is good on LI.

Surf fishing
You are 20 minutes from Long Beach, Atlantic Beach & Rockaway beach. Look at a map you are there.
