Started working on some deep water flies for bass
With the fishing a little slow I started to think about making some flies that will get me down deep for later in the year when the stripers start heading back south and feeding in the deeper areas along the beach and the rips.
Here it the first one. Using those super heavy eyes that may weight 1/4 of an ounce. I have done pretty well with flies like this before in the deeper water. They are not the easiest to cast but with the sinking line they do get me down to where the fish are.

Will be trying different colors. I have all kinds of feathers and tying materials that I hardly ever use so I will be trying to use some of it up so there could be some strange looking ones.
Bass are not that picky. If you get something down and it looks like I fish they will eat it if they see it. Live bait guys use spot, bunker, croakers, eels etc and you find small seabass, tog, fluke and other stuff in them when cleaning. If it swims stripers will eat it. All you have to do is get it down deep where they can see it, which for us fly guys is the real battle and a bit of work.
