Mike and I hit the water today with hopes of finding some Trout and looking in my Pompano hole if the tide falls out but with the waxing moon and North wind, the tide never made low as we needed it.
We beat the banks and flats for Trout on the high tide only to have the Flounder work us over. First spot, I get a nice Trout on and lost it almost to the boat, I had the drag to tight...Having some rat Trout bites that we could not get our hooks set in, we move to another point and large flat on the falling tide and my MirrOlure got smashed, only to miss it. We set the power poles down and fish with no more bites on the plastics and I put out a finger Mullet and had the first Flounder of the day inhale it, 5.2 pounds. Thanks for the picture Mike, you got one of your Flounder?
With no more bites there, we moved down the bank and Mike got a nice keeper Flounder on soft plastic and then another, I made the switch and soon had my second to the boat. Ok time to make the 4 mile run to the Pompano hole and off we went only to find the tide was much to high to find the Pompano, so plan "B"...
Look out Drum here we come... Pulling onto the small flat, we work down to the creek and I get smashed on the MirrOlure and miss it. I throw over to a small marsh island and rock bar and get a nice bump, throw in the same spot again and a nice Trout, just a little over 4 pounds, crushes my lure and comes to net as well as being "guest of honor for dinner tonight...nice to have you for dinner Mr. Trout...
Moving down the bank, we see a nice Drum in the mouth of a creek but we could not get it to eat our offerings. I see movement on the other side of the creek and another nice Drum it in the shadows. Make my cast get hit and miss it, Mike fires into the spot and a rat Drum comes out of no where and grabs his bait, first Drum comes to hand. Slid around the corner and see one go under the boat and work up to the next corner and Mike comes tight with this nice guy...
We hardly move and this guy hits me up...
Just like this picture...
Before we move, Mike gets his first Trout of the day...
I make another cast down the bank and my second small Drum comes to hand and it is time to slide the boat down toward the next point. I have a rat Trout to the boat. With the tide on the hard flood, it was time to make a move and off we went. Easing toward the next marsh island the current is screaming and getting a hook set was almost hopeless so we hop to the other side and this fellow eats what I toss up to the marsh edge...
nice little Black Drum...
With the day coming to a close, we make the run toward home and hit one last spot on the rising tide. Fishing the bank with no love, I throw out toward the outside flat and get a hit and another hit with no hookup. Mike comes to the back with me and gets a Bluefish on soft plastic, changes to another hard bait and gets the 4th slam of the day for us.
All in all, it was a great day of fishing with a great friend. Getting 1 slam is a great day but when you wind up with 4 for the day...wow. Until next time Mike...good luck tomorrow...![]()

With out a doubt, Flip has the tightest loop with a fly line that I have ever seen and his casting is effortless. Its fun to watch Flip try to keep Lefty in check but it never works...
