Today when Scott walked down the dock, the first thing I noticed was he was taller than me by 6" or so and had big hands with an infectious smile, He was ready to rock and roll and catch some fish. Flounder Trout and Drum were on the menu and with the extra high tides, I had my work cut out. My plan was to fish 40+ miles to the south of yesterday in the open mashes.
On the way, we stopped at one of my Trout holes and just as I said make one more cast, Scott hooks a nice little Trout that we sent back to grow up a little. We made some more casts but no love and it was time to move.
When we got to our next spot, the tide was a foot above normal and the current was screaming. Put Scot on a 3/8 oz round jig head and had him work it down the bank looking for Drum. He comes tight and a nice 19 to 20" Trout comes to the boat...
Somehow we missed taking the picture on the boat so we grabbed it on the dock when we got back...
We finish working that bank with no more love and move back to where we can slid into the marsh. Though the water was stained, it was clear and we could see the fish. Scott was throwing "Goldilocks" and before I could get us settled, he was hooked up with a nice fish that soon came to the boat, his fist Drum and he did it in the marsh...![]()
Pictures were taken and soon, he was put back to play another day...
Tails we win...Carolina blue sky...Carolina blue tail
We work around this marsh seeing fish suck down goodies and show us their backs as it was way to deep to tail in the marsh but could not get another bite, time to move.
Pulled into the next spot and soon we were on top of another couple of fish but they were not eating. We ease around and soon another boat moves into the marsh on top of us, that sucked but we made the best of it when I here Scott say, look at that Drum. The fish was 4 feet from the boat, I slid my thump bait on the marsh and let it drop just behind the fish. He turns and inhales the bait and it was on, I passed the rod to Scott and he sets the hook. The fish tears from the boat and back again and soon finds the tallest, thickest marsh near us and wraps up in it. I work at freeing the line and soon we had him in the boat, right under the nose of the other boat...
Another Carolina blue tail...
With the tide an hour or so into the fall, it was time to find Scott the Flounder so we eased out of the marsh to a nice bank that tends to hold Flounder.
Now I have this thing about listing to that little voice in the back of my head, and when it tells me to do or try something, I will do it most of the time as it is usually right...I almost never use Gulp but that nagging voice said put it on and I did, 3 casts later...
another Drum comes to the boat...Scott was a happy camper...
We worked down the bank and turned the corner by the creek and Scott comes tight again, this time was our target and a nice one at that...
Soon it was time for us to head back to the house with an hour run, not a bad 1/2 day at all. Enjoyed it Scott, looking forward to us doing it again...![]()
