We couldn't of picked a worse day for our fly fishing event. Full moon tide with Gale force winds and rain out of the north east. We fished the leeward shore as it would of been totally impossible on the ocean side.

Everyone showed up at the Point on time. I was surprised at the turnout. 6:00 a.m. and we had 16 Hard core fly anglers ready to fight the elements. It was raining with gale force winds. We moved everyone over to the Alexander Ave. area where we would have the wind to our backs with the tide coming in.

We hit the beach before the sun came up. Conditions weren't as bad as we thought they would be. Water was not that bad color wise but there was some pretty good surf where there is usually a small break on the beach. Any way you cut it, it was difficult fly fishing at best. Most were using intermediate or sinking line.

Did Reggie have the first fish of the day with with his rod bent and drag peeling out.

It was just wishful thinking as the next picture shows it was Chuck.

Everyone was in good spirits as we fired cast after cast in the tough conditions. The surf kept getting bigger as the tide came in an totally covered the jetties and came up on the beach much higher than normal due to the Northeast winds and full moon tides.

One of our members, I believe it was Jim Snyder caught the only fish of the day. It was a small striper. We didn't get a picture as he was down the beach away from those that had cameras. We did see one nice weakie caught on bait and another on by and angler throwing a plug.

Fishing was tough but the company was great. We all had as good of a time as possible with the conditions we faced. We spend some time on the beach talking and headed off thinking we will have to do this again, only with better weather.

Tried to get everyones picture but a fee left before we got the group shot. Want to thank all those that showed up. The fishing together was fun. Next time will catch them. Funny how the pictures make it look a lot nicer than it really was.
