Hauled the "Sea Average" up to Weldon, North Carolina during Easter weekend for an annual camping/fishing trip that some buddies and I have been doing for about three years now to get in on the amazing Striper run that they experience each spring. I am fortunate enough to have made friends with Michael Shearin who runs Roanoke River Rentals and Guides and each year his family welcomes us to Weldon to camp at their small cabin located directly on the river just down from the boat ramp. Fished from noon on Friday until Sunday afternoon and could not tell you how many fish we caught. Went through 28 dozen minnows and easily released over 50 fish per day. Our party of 7 each took home a three day limit of 21" fish, with a two fish per person per day limit. Between all the fishing and cooking, I did manage to get in my first ever turkey hunt on Saturday morning. Heard birds gobbling before sun up but they were scared off by a pack of dogs chasing a deer through the field just after sun up. Ended up having a couple hens in another field later in the morning but no such luck with any of the boys. The turkey hunt was one of the coolest things I've done and am driving back up Friday afternoon to try my luck again Saturday morning. To say i'm hooked is an understatement Snapped a couple pics of the fish throughout the three day weekend. The kid in the picture is my boss' son and outfished all of the grown men. Enjoy![]()
