    Question Sabiki rigs

A friend of mine has asked me to tie up some fly's for a large sabiki rig that he is going to use attached to a kite, to catch bait fish out side the surf line from the beach.
I have several fly patterns in mind but ,I figured that I would bounce it off you guy's to see what you have in mind for such a rig

Why not just use a normal store bought sabiki? They are a dollar....

    Jake-

    Here's a Sabiki Rig

They're used to catch bait all over the world. Simply jigging them around bait schools usually brings up a few on each drop. You'll see them in use around the marinas when the tuna chunking season hits OC. A great way to put a bunch of spot in the livewell.

I'm guessing this guy will use a kite to carry the sabiki rig out into the surf where bait is working. He'll be able to acheive the vertical jigging technique that is used by having the line go through a release or a ring on the kite.

    As far as flies....

I'd go with Gotcha's or Charlie's w/ plenty of flash. What size hook are you thinking?

I understand what you guy's are saying.I have used them for years but, this guy wants a bigger rig than the one you and, I are using. He wants a jig much larger than I have ever used for this type of set up.He is asking for two or three inch fly's for this thing.
At first I thought he was just pulling my leg and, I brushed him off but, then he pulled out this extra large set up with no jigs and, I realized that he was serious so, I figured I would give it a try.

Heck a bunch of jiggys, clousers, decievers, Bucktail decievers, You might want to use synthetics so they last a little longer.

    What's he targeting?

Sandy, I think I would tie them out of all flashaboo and leave it at that, after all the Sabiki rigs we usa are mostly made from Haddick (sp?) skin I think. I've got some that is very wide that I would think would be just right. What kind of fish is trying to catch?

I have used sabikis alot and have always just bought them from the store. I am interested in making them myself but do not know what knot to use when i tie the hook onto the main line part. Does anyone know how to do this?
