Roanoke River at Weldon, NC

Well I'm back up for round 2 on the river, don't look for pictures till I get back as this computer can't handle it.

Started droping the water last night and slowed the bite from 2 days ago, only a 60 fish day today but we did get off the river at 2PM so that could have something to do with it.

Fiahing again tomorrow in the rain but the fish are wet so guess if we are too, they won't care. Jig bite was very good and fly bite was ok too. Keeper season ends on Saturday and I will be glad, the crazies are on the river in large numbers.

All this rain has made the Susquehanna flats fishery here in MD a wash for guy on artificials this year and the bite in the bay has been so so as well.

A friend of mine has been fishing in brookneal, VA way upstream from you for a few days and has caught a few stripers and a smallmouth or two. He said the electro fishing boat went by the other day to catch a few cows to use at the hatchery. Quite a sight to see.

I'm riding along on a gill net tagging survey with MD DNR next thursday. I'll be sure to post pics if we catch any monster stripers.

Well another 100+ fish day, all the fish you want in the 18 to 22" range with over 30 over slot. Jig bite was on and we foung a tree and tied off and there we stayed for 4 hours, every cast, or every other cast. Heading for the shower...

Yesterday was kinda slow, little over 30 for the afternoon. 2:30 PM till almost dark. They dropped the water down another 1000CFM and that shut the bite till the late PM. Water flow in now at 8000 and they said they were going to hold it there.

Not planning on being on the water till tomorrow as today is last day of keeper season and I don't want to fight the crazies if I can help it.

Great report Lee. Sounds like the fishing is still real good. Drove down last night to go on my second turkey hunt this morning. Stopped by the river and I could definitely tell the water had dropped since Easter weekend. Looked as crowded as ever. On a side note, worked my first big gobbler today but didn't get a shot. Man is it a rush. Weldon/Roanoke River is definitely a sportsman's paradise.

Slower on the river today with all the boat trafic from the last day of keeper season, but the bite turned on with a couple of hours to go. 2 halfs tomorrow, gonna be a long day...

Wesley, you got that right, this river is alive with wild life. Sorry about you not getting your bird but you will just have to come back and try again.

This place should be on everyones bucket list. The hardest thing for me here in not having a 100+ fish day, this place had me spoiled in that reguard.

Long day yesterday. 73 in the morning and 64 in the afternoon, all on fly in the afternoon. Down East Guide, had over 250 on fly and jig. Fish trying to spawn and is the earlyest that I have seen this in 15 years of fishing here. Come get yourself some, I have some open dates still...
