    Smile Rare Deep Surf Report

Usually I limit my beach time to gathering blues for shark bait in early June. Since getting here Thursday I have been doing drive by check ups. Today I did so again a few times between runs to get stuff for the boat. Each stop I'd watch and ask what was getting got... Finally with daylight running short to start any more long projects I grabbed a light stic and a couple jigs...
This time of year is so different. No swimmers but a line of rod tips north and south as far as I could see. When I'm there in June I'm usually the only stick toting sand dweller there. I love the diversity of people. Some keen on their game. Others hoping just to catch something they could eat. VanStall and K-Mart side by side... Old, you, dems and reps standing shoulder to shoulder and all on the same page. A patient lot to be sure. My trips today covered six hours and I watched a guy slinging a fly. Thousands of casts to be sure.
Four jetties to the south a cloud of birds gathered... I raced as fast as these half century old stems could cary me toward the blits. I dreamed of stripers dumping my 8lb outfit... No such luck its was 3-5 pound blues on the fringe of as long of a cast as most of us could make... I stayed with them for probably a half mile or so taking six before a yellow regulator ran them over too many times and scattered the school...
I made my way back near where I started and a little eddy tipped me off to a likeley spot. A few dozen casts yielded two short bass and my day was made. I stayed past dark where the clam slingers started to pick shorts but the jigs went quiet... All in all I had a blast...
