Puerto aventuras/Playa del Carmen surf fishing?
First of all hello to all you other fishermen out there, I stumbled upon this site while looking for information about surf fishing in the Puerto Aventuras/Playa del carmen area of Mexico. (good site)
Myself and my girlfriend are travelling from Scotland to Puerto Aventuras in May and was looking for any information regards surf or rock fishing in the area, we have previously fished around the cancun area and had mixed results mainly bait fishing.
Can anyone recommend any specific areas to do some shore fishing and tell me if there are any restrictions as to where I cannot fish apart from the protected areas such as Akumel etc.
We will have both bait and spin fishing tackle with us.
thanks in advance

Surf Fishing
I was just there in March and I was sitting on the beach watching birds start to work the surface for bait. There was a nice bait ball jus outside some the shorebreak. Then all of a sudden I swear there was a school of 20-30 jacks cruising through hitting the bait ball. They were working in and out of the surf, which was cool to watch. Unfortunately, I didn't have my rig at the time but if I had brought a spinning set up with a nice swimbait or spoon. I know for sure I would have hooked a few.
For surf fishing down there, just keep your eyes open for birds working the surface and rock outcroppings. Cast lures such as spoons, swimbaits, and Kastmasters, etc.
Make sure you bring a good spinning set up with at least 15-20# test. Good luck
