I have had trouble using adhesive eyes. Every time I try to use them they stick for about a second and then come off. Is there a certain way you are supposed to put them on or do I need to buy a different brand of adhesive eyes????![]()

They usually work pretty well. If they are old they seem to loose their sticky adhesive. Then they become more trouble than they are worth. Think we have all been there, trying to get them to stick. I use some clear nail polish to just hold them in place till I cover them with epoxy.
I'll give the nail polish thing a shot thanks!
Try putting some Sally Hanson's hard As Nails on the sticky side before you put them on.
awhile back, I ran into a tyer that put adhesive eyes on just about everything, including Clousers. He claims they are of utmost importance. Is this true? If it is, do you epoxy over them on whenever you use them? Another covering needed or just secure them with the hard as nails or whatever adhesive you use?
Try tab eyes. They have a tab on them that allows you to tie them in and hold them in place. I always put some sort of head finish over them, but you might get away with nothing on them.

Plasti-Dip in Clear is available at hardware stores if they order it. Most don't carry the clear version.
Down N Trout flyshop has it available to order by phone. They're in Pt. Pleasant, NJ.
I've been meaning to order some for two years now and will finally remember on monday.
I used some today and it's light, clear, and dries in about 15 min w/ no sagging or requiring a epoxy drying wheel.

If you want to keep the head of your fly soft, coat over your eyes with Flex cement, soft tex or cover with clear Goop.
Not sure what you are trying to stick the eyes on but some therads have wax on them, ie, flat wax nylon that I like as well a mono core thread which has a slick coating. Another trick is to coat fur with a little head cement of your choseing and let dry, then put your eyes on.
Do you agree that eyes are important on bait imitations? The fellow that was telling me to add the eyes (Bigger the better in his opinion) felt that fish key in on eyes when attacking a bait. He had large eyes affixed to the dumb bells on Clousers, as well as the rest of his imitations. I'd like your opinions on this.
Yes Wave I do think that eyes are important but I'm not sure how importent they are. Some of the flys I tye have eyes and some don't. The bigger flys I tye most always have big eyes, the smaller ones....some do some don't. In the smaller flys I can't see much diffrence with or without.
