    pickerel on the fly

hit an anapolis area river yesterday with my buddy. we went looking for a change from the stripers and we found them. we had an incredible day with lots of action . i landed about 6-7 and my buddy had about 8-10. charteuse seemed to be the hot color. weedless was also pretty impotant because of all the leaves on the water not to mention the grasses they inhabit. awesome day on the water. had probably about 30 hits on the day. lots of tail biters and nippers but all in all an awesome day.

They're a great way to change the pace a little aren't they? I've gotta get out there with my kayak again sooner than later.

Got to love those pickeral. Use to love to catch those guys. Have never really fished them with the fly rod. I get a freshwater license every year but never use it. Might just have to give it a shot next year. What kind of line and strip worked for you?

hey ray. used a chartruese sea ducer with lead eyes and a weed guard did really well with it. ancient pattern with great results.
