    offshore fly rod?

i think i am gonna try to save up for an offshore rod and reel. i will be targeting mahi, tuna, shark, and maybe billfish. i have heard you want a short rod for lifting the fish. i was wondering if you had any recomendations on what to get that is not to pricey?

9 and 10 wts are good for the small stuff including Mahi but 12 or 14 wt would be best for the bigger stuff. Maybe others will give you some other advise. I am looking to get a 12 wt TFO rod for the bigger stuff myself for off shore.

I do have an 11 weight Loomis GLX Cross Current that is brand new. My cost is $389 You can have it for that if your interested. The Loomis CC rods are a little beefier than other brands. I have landed some decent BFT on the 11. Mahi, Kings, Etc are fine on the 10 weight. Unfortunately the Colton 11 weight is not ready yet.

If you are looking for BIG game like shark, Big sails, Big tuna, etc then you need to be in a 14 or 15 weight rod around 8.5 long.

Its a very good rod. Retails for about $700. That price I gave you is my prodeal cost.

I could set you up with one of my Colton CRG-I or G-II reels(www.coltonfly.com) or I do have a Tibor Riptide Quickchange that is brand new as well. $550 is what I paid for it. The reel goes for $735 if your no prostaff as well.

Let me know if your interested.

    Tight lines, Bob
