NJ BEACHES ARE GIVING ME MIXED EMOTIONS...

As any avid beach goer on nj knows.. october is normally a false hope for beach action as most of the bass are cookie cutters and some biggers are caught but nothing to big or good.

i have been fishing as hard as i could but it just has not materialized just yet. i have had my share of fish but it has not been a stellar month thus far..

i have spent numerous days, nights, and overnights on the beach with plenty of action but a lot of smaller fish.. only one skunk in about 15 trips and most if not all trips have produced numerous fish with 5 keepers so far but nothing really big. the biggest came to a striper virgin my wifes brother in law with a nice fat 33 incher on clams.. i have been throwing artificla sbut have not been able to get anything going.

starting with bombers, pencil poppers, poppers, avas, tins, and anything and everything i have in my truck and have not been able to get anything except on clammers..

i will continue to throw the clammers in hopes of some bigger fish but i think it is time to chase the bait off the beach in the boat...

    Most are small

I agree, I fished from Wednesday am thru Sunday am and got 51 bass, most on rubber. I do not fish bait but did see a few larger fish caught on clam. Most of my fish were 26-27 inch fish with maybe 6 or 7 over 28 to 30 inches and the same amount under 26. I did have what felt like a good fish on Friday am but pulled the hook after a few seconds. These storms are not helping as the water clarity is up an down. Sunday am it was like bosco even though it was fairly clean Saturday in the SE blow. It will bounce back and the next few months should be good. There are larger fish to our south already so they passed off shore. If we can keep the larger sand eels into the colder weather we have a shot.

Cycles, cycles, cycles... It happenes every so often. I remember chasing those fish, hitting the same spots year after year and every couple years it just didn't happen. This may be one of those years the suds just don't fire off for you guys.

I use to follow them from Sandy Hook down to about LBI every year. We'd hear of the big bite going on off of Montauk in late Sept, early October and just start to salivate waiting for the cows to show themselves along our little stretch of paradise. Then they'd be a little closer, off of Staten Island, "They'll be here soon" Then next thing you know, it's the end of December and the water is cold as hell and the fish are being caught in Virginia. "WTF?"

Enjoy catching the rats and just look forward to next season. There's nothing y'all did wrong, sometimes they just pass you by.
