    Talking nice night of wading

Went wading after work tonight - what a beautiful night. I am in Poquoson VA, near Hampton. Was fishing Back River, and yes it is chilly. Fished from 430pm to 530pm with a 7wt w/ floating line. Total of nine stripers ranging from 14-17". First two caught on a blue over char clouser then I saw some surface swirls. No wind, sun setting and swirls - how great! Switched to a deceiver, red over yellow. Got to watch the next seven take the fly. See the swirl, set the hook. Missed three more but still a great hour of fishing. Wish i could go again tomorrow, but know I will not get home before dark.

That's an hour more than I had on the river so you're doing something good. Nothing finer than seeing the take. That is if you don't pull it away from them.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Dave,
Yes I did miss three, and I am convinced it was because i got over eager. This is my first year fly fishing - been fishing most of my 48 years - but just recently decided to get serious and learn to cast a fly. i hope the weather holds and maybe tomorrow night i can get there again.

I started fly fishing at about the same age. Never knew what I was missing. Now it is my prefered method. Have never trout fished, but have taken a few bass and pickeral. I am 99 percent saltwater but hope to do the trout thing one of these days. I started offshore. My first 79 fish were Mahi Mahi up to about 20 lbs and then learned how to get bass and other fish later. Wish I would of started earlier but knew no fly fishermen and my dad was a surf and bait man.
