Need some help in South Mississippi

Hey everyone,
My name is Jayd and i am new to the sport of saltwater fishing as well as new to Mississippi in general. My wife is stationed in the Army here and i felt what better a way to spend time than fishing? Well it is now mid January and after some cold weather I am about to go crazy from cabin fever. I want to go to the pier to fish in Gulfport and just dont want to drive the hour down to catch nothing. Is there anything biting this time of year and when is the best time to go after them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if there is any saltwater fly fisherman in the area please conact me as I am a freshwater fly fisherman and may give saltwater a try at some point.
