Need HELP, sheeps head around oregen inlet bridge?

I'm at the accesible part of the OBX for the week. Today, tomorrow, and possibly Thursday don't look good for going out in the ocean (Thanks Hurricane Katia). I was wondering if anyone had luck targeting sheepshead around the pilings on the oregen inlet bridge or even the bridge going into Manteo. I have blue crabs, fiddlers, and sand fleas so I think I covered on the bait. The water at Oregen Inlet is dirty! Will that effect anything?

Anything else I should be targeting in the sound? i know the puppy drum are moving in and I saw plenty fo trout jumping in this one spot yesterday on my way out of the sound.

We caught loads of bluefish and false alabcore just south of the inlet in some very blue water about a mile off the beach, some albies were around fifteen pounds and took our spanish gear for a run.

    Thanks for the help.

    Anders,

I have not fished for them there, but know a fella that claims to have done very well for them there in the past. There is lots of current as you already know, so have heavy enouh weight. He did say that he lost alot of gear there on snags, but caught a bunch of really nice fish. This info is not new, but I can't imagine it changing much. Good flounder fishing on the flats and shallows around the bridge too. I expect you won't have much trouble finding fish to catch in the area. Frank

    Frank,
Thanks for the info. I imagine I will be giving it a try before the week is over. I have never fished for them before and don't know if they like the strong surrent, maybe slower current, deeper, mid range, shallow, so I guess i'll just have to get out there. I have seen them on piers in shallow water so I might try around there first. Hopefully i'll have a good report to share!

I will first say, NO EXCUSES! I should have been here.

I took a new J-O-B and the internet filters they have keep me from great places like this.

Anyways, i'm done in Corolla for the week and I will be fishin my tail off. I got my V20 Wellcraft and I only know how to fish for drum and cobia, and off course troll around pullin baits. I wouldn't mind figuring out how to fish some wrecks and am thinking about a run to the tower for AJ's if the weather is nice enough on Friday, Sat.

    You got a good word?

Well... We found the fish but couldn't get them on the hook Friday. Most of the Sheepshead looked like they were in the 4-8 pound range, and we probably saw 30-40 fish during the low tide. We fished with blue crab and they kept stealing our bait. Since I couldn't catch them, I took some pictures of the fish. If I only had a Hawaiian Sling.

So I called TW's and asked if they had any slings, they did, so we went back Saturday and the fish were not there like they were on Friday. I shot at two and missed both. Frustrated I left and decided to head back. We passed a buoy just inside the inlet and I had to look twice because I thought I saw a cobia holding on the bouy. After a second look I realized it was a monster Sheepy! I got the sling out and we cruised up to the bouy but the big rascal dove before we could get close enough and never came back. It was huge, I would put it at somewhere around 15 pounds. But thats how it goes.
