    Myrtle Beach Surf

I am going to be in the myrtle beach area the week of May 15-20th. Is there any good fishing from the surf during this time or is it a waste of time? I think there is a pier up north i could try. Ive tried to fish the surf there before and came up with one small blue. Looking for some help.

    pwake,

You might want to pm Ace1 and he can reply when he gets back. He lives there and he might be able to give you some pointers. I would guess most of what you would catch would be some whiting, croakers, skates and some small brown marlin. Thats about all I catch in front of my house and I'm about 30 mi east of there.. You would do better to go up to little river and hop on a head boat and do some bottom fishing.

I did that last year after not catching off the beach. Did the gulfstream trip and caught snapper, mackeral, some other fish that looked like a blue, cant remember the name and sea bass. Oh, and a first for me, a triggerfish, nice friggin teeth on that thing.

The only thing good about surf fishing down there is drinking beer and watching girls walk by.

The woman i did not mind. I actually caught a nice one as she ran right through my line and the hook got stuck in her shoe. Try getting the barb out of a shoe lace without cutting it.

I hit the surf quite a bit down there and truthfully, it sucks. Try Apache Pier its probably your best shot. You can also hit the break wall at huntington state park but it is one hell of a long walk, its down 17 I think just past Murrels inlet. Ive also caught a bunch of trout off of the dock at Capt Dicks in Murrels Inlet

The surf fishing here is slow. Unless you get your line way out there, you wont have much chance of anything. Sometimes you fish off the piers with live bait you can caught some sharks or kings if its the right time of the year.

If you dont mind me asking, who did you go out fishing with on the gulf stream trip you did. I work with the Calabash Fishing Fleet in Calabash, NC. Which is right up the road from Little River. We have private charters and a head boat.

Obviously the gulf stream trips are a lot better than the half days. And of course a private charter is always the best. Private charters you can troll on half days and kill spanish and kings. Might be able to get a cobia or two. Hell I caught Maui Maui on the head boat 5 miles off Little River Inlet last year. So you really never know. haha

If you want, check us out.

love for you to go with us.

I cant remeber exactlly who it was in little river. I just saw it and they had 6 guys on it and were looking for 2 more to go and booked it. Definetly a good time. I think i saw the calabash fishing as we rode by. Maybe next time.
