Capt Lee,
I think you have it backwards, the TT sinks faster than the 52M. It digs deeper and fishes better in heavy current than the 52M.
The TT does indeed have a wider back, but that gives it more surface area on the top pulling it down when retrieved.
I noticed on page 5 of your mirrolure 101 thread that you state that the TT sinks faster, but on pg 6 it says the opposite.

Thanks for the reply wbwarren but drop the 2 side by side in the water and the 52 will sink faster, the wider back, makes the TT have a slower sink rate. Guess on page 5, I have a typo on it as the series 3 is the fastest, the M52 and next is the TT. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I will try to find it and correct that...![]()
Quote from the mirrrolure website: "STTR – A replica of a trout fingerling whichTrout, Redfish, Snook, Striper and Tarpon
find irresistible. STTR has a greater sink rate
than S52MR, which allows it to dive deeper.]" (http://www.mirrolure.com/MIRROLURE_WEB_BROC.pdf - pg 6).
With the wider back, the TT may sink slightly slower (though the difference is insignificant) untouched, but it definitely fishes deeper than the 52M on the retrieve (for the same reason). The attachment point on both are similar to a rattletrap, causing the nose to dive down - the wider the back the more resistance and thus the greater pull down.
Capt. Lee, did you change the hooks out on some of the pictures from the original silver to black? In the gulf our go to colors in the winter are 11, 26, 808, 750, and EC. Each person ties on a different color and when we catch a couple we switch to the color that works. If no bites we switch locations. I tend to start fishing fast (twitches) to cover more ground and then slow down as needed. I start with a 3-5 second pause and then go slower as the temp drops. I have had times when the fast twitches slammed them and vice versa.
SeaChaser, yes I do change the hooks out, sometimes I use the black Eagle Claw Lazar sharp 4X strong when I can't get the silver ones. Great finish and lasts for a month or so with out rusting. I do like to change the hooks out when I see them starting to rust.
I think I like the 750![]()
better than the 808in stained water, just stands out a little better. It is hard to go wrong with the # 11 (white with a red head) and here when the water is a little stained, the 26 with a red back is the heat. This year, our water was a little clearer that normal, lack of rain, and the BKCGH was the ticket for me almost every day.
That 3 to 5 second pause it the way to go but sometimes that 10 to 15 second pause will get the ones that are even moving slower, just hard to slow down that much.![]()

Great read lee and awesome info. What colors would you recommend for delacroix area after seeing the water color. We start going down every weekend after Christmas for the commercial season.
