Mosquito Lagoon 7/28/11
7/28 - El Dora area
I met Rich C. at the RB ramp at 6 am. I was thinking of starting fishing the east side of Bissitte Bay, but some idiot, who couldn't find fish without running over them to "bump'em up", was running along the bank. No fish left over there!
So we headed over to the east end of Slippery Creek and fished topwater plugs along both shorelines, amazingly, no one came down thru the creek...all morning! Fish were moving along both sides but we only got half-hearted pops at our lures.
I one trout alongside the boat that looked about 17" and I asked Rich if he wanted it. He said no and the fish flipped off the hook. Key West release!
Rich switched lures and caught an undersized flounder, and I soon put a small ladyfish in the livewell for later.
We caught a couple undersized trout and a porpoise with a knotty looking top fin would rush in and eat them when we let them go. With him around we decided to motor up and leave the area. We ran a couple hundred yards and I saw behind us that he had stayed at the point where we had left him. We shut down the motor and used the trolling motor to ease over to the bank. ...And here comes ol' Knotty Fin!
We motored up again and headed over to the El Dora side and fished our way north thru the shallow islands. It was about 10 am when the wind picked up from 3-4 mph to over 7 mph. We caught a few small trout and saw something crashing the bait along side one of the oyster bars.
A buddy fishing nearby gave us a call and we headed south to where he had found a school of small redfish. He was set up near a little bay that was full of big mullet. We staked out within shouting distance and put our ladyfish chunks into action. The clouds were building and shedding rain to the west of us, but, just before we left, my line started moving and I had a red on! A nice little 18-1/2" red, that was photo'ed and released. So we ended up with a nice little Slippery Creek Slam of (6 or 7) trout, a redfish, a flounder, and a ladyfish
A Wildlife Officer was checking livewells when we got back to the ramp.
Barometer was at 30.03 at 5:30 am and was 30.13 at noon.

Nice Report Capt Frank. I swear the Porpoise are getting to smart and are learning more all the time. I hate them on our flats here, the bite shuts off. Thanks for posting.
