All I can say Capt. Lee is WOW! and THANKS! Mirrolures are used up here by some of the older anglers/guides. This will certainly improve my use and selection of them. Thanks again!

Lee - GREAT post and info... THANKS!

Q: What knot do you like... loop knot or straight to the eye?

I counted over 70 in your photos, and I'm guessing there are some that didn't make it to internet fame. At ~$5.00 each, you've got some money tied up in Mirro-Lures!

Q: If you had to pick 10 Mirro-Lures for fishing the inlets/back-waters... which ones would they be?

    Capt. Lee,

Thanks for the awesome info. I have definitelty been that guy starting at the rack of mirrolures with the blank stare/look of ignorance on my face One of my goals this fall is to learn how to fish a mirrolure so this was an awesome thread for me, lots of great info.

Question: I switched all my spinning gear over to braid this summer and have been using a couple different knots to splice my flouro leader onto the braid mainline. I have used a uni-uni and the "stren knot." I saw the "stren knot" in carolina sportsman and have been using it recently. I haven't really had any problems with either but wondered what everybody else uses??

i too fish braid on all my reels....10 and 20 lb test power pro, green or yellow, along with a short shot of 20 lb fluoro. i like to keep my leader short enough to where it doesnt get up into the tip top before a cast, yet long enough to where i can take a wrap or two on it to leader a fish in the suds. if the knot does get up into the guides on the cast, no big deal...i just prefer it not to.

with these thin braids, i like to double them before tying my line to leader knot....either with a short bimini or a spider hitch. now with my doubled main line, i either use a uni/uni or a bristol knot(some call it a no-name knot). the bristol tends to be a little more compact so i use it more often, but it requires an end loop in the main line, where as the uni/uni does not.

as for connecting my plug to my leader, i think a loop knot is essential. it allows the plug just a little more wiggle room, that might mean getting that bite or not. i use a "canoeman loop" knot for my plugs:

    http://capmel.com/loop_knot.htm

some might argue that you can get the same action using a snap than you can with a loop knot......THE HORROR!!! the little extra weight of the snap will hinder the plugs action. one of my fishing buddys uses a tiny Norman Speed Clip, like the bass fishermen use. i give him crap about it all the time...saying it is going to fail when a slob eats his plug and gets in the current in the surf. it hasnt failed yet, and he catchs fish....but i will keep on tying my loop knots, thank you very much!

    This thread raised the bar!

I am starting into the dusty plano boxes right now. Gonna sort out the fifty million mirror lures and tune em up! Hats off to you Lee. Very cool thread!

    As for the connection...Light braid-(10-20#)moss green...uni to uni...flouro...Loop knot.

THE HORROR OF A SWIVEL!!!!! Oh my! There is not a fish with better vision than a Speckled Trout as far as I am concerned. And anything I catch on a mirror lure is bycatch!

I cringe when I see a swivel hooked to a mirror lure! UHHHH!

Using a mirror lure for stripers is cheating and asking for a hook or three in the hand. Stripers will eat the hell out of mirrorlures and I have cussed a gazillion of them for doing it!

    GOTTAFLY MIRROR LURE SCHOOL! GOTTALOVEIT!

    Thumbs up

    Thanks for the help guys.

All this fishing talk has got me fired up, I think I may have to hit the water for a while this evening and try out that loop knot. Tide looks pretty crappy for this afternoon but it is better that having to go home and cut the grass or some other productive activity. Maybe I'll stop by the store and pick up one of Capt. Lee's favorites and tie it up with JMS and Holwachagot's knot suggestions and see what I can stir up.

    Man I love this site

I use a little bit bigger braid some of my big spinners have 50# powerpro and it is still really thin. Put 30# pp on my newest spinner. As for leaders the pic of my trandem bucktail rig is on 60# floro ( you can see the crimp) but I have to compromise fishing here. Drifting in the back bay at the start of the ebb and then working out to the inlet/jetty or bouncing off the bridge pilings.Connection for braid to floro bimini in the braid and a uni in the floro.
