Exotic birds caught in the wild and brought into the coutry is EXTREMELY rehulated, as it should be IMO, stear clear og them! They are probbly poached, smuggled in, and not vetted out.
Some states regulate certain species of birds that can be brought in. Mostly because there are irresponsible people that will let them loose, and they screw up the natural ecology. (Like the Snakehead fish problem).
Responsible bird owners check into a bird's heritage carefully before bringing it home. They stay on top of the bird's health, and well being. Birds such as ours will out live us (MacaWs can live past 100 when properly taken cae of.), so they are a commitment.
I hope I answered your question, sorry if I got preachy,
but I feel strongly about owning a pet and being responsible at it.

Hey Wave,I like the Birds. I have raised a Blue & gold & Scarlet from a baby that you could put in your hand. Also have had a Yellow Nape as well as a Malaccan Cockatoo. Other than the Macaws and Cockatoos being screamers they are great pets. The Yellow Nape can say over two hundred words as well as sing ten or twelve songs.

I'll take the Blue and Gold screaming over a Cockatoo any day gottfly! And one large bird is enough. (Inherited a Pionis from my mom, he's not as loud, but he knows how to fire up the B&G! I'm amazed at how smart the birds are, and how affetionate they can be. They also make pretty good watch birds. You can't step foot on my property with out the bird announcing your presence. Mine also makes a pretty good guide when I walk with him on my arm around the neighborhood. He could never be certified as a guide animal, but he makes a pretty good "wing man"! LOL
