    Let's Kick it off

Id like to kick off the first post in this forum.

I do get to do a little bit of fly fishing here in the summer/fall.

Drum in the sound and spanish in the inlet from the beach, its really fun. Even get to go get some fat alberts a few times a year.

I know there are quite a few fly'ers here, so lets get it started!

8-9 is a pretty good all around weight. Althought I wouldnt mind having a light one, like a 5-6 weight for the spanish off of the beach, would be an absolute blast.

Been swatting at the air for probably 10 years now and finally decided to take it serious this time last year. Starting tying flies...now I have a feathery mess in the basement.

Have a redington 5/6 wt w/ a ross cimaron for freshwater.
    7wt TFO TiCR Lefty Series w/ a Tioga 8...intermediate and 250 teeny
    9wt TFO TiCR Lefty....Tioga 10....Floating and 350 teeny.
12 wt redington something or other....never used it.
Pate Marlin that has no blood on it either. 600 gr. Leviathan and 600yds of backing.

    Fish caught on fly:
    Rainbow
    Cutthroat
    Brown
    Brook
    blue
    flounder
    Rock
    LMB
    SMB
    Bluegill
    Bonefish
    pickerel
    shad
    w. perch

Fish to get on the list this year:
    Permit
    Tarpon
    Tuna
    Mahi
    Weakfish
    y. perch
    croaker

    Let the party begin...

I'm sure many from other sites will come over here but I have a funny feeling SF.com will continue to raise the bar.

Good to see a fly forum. Is there any other way to catch fish once you get hooked on the fly rod. I am sorry I waited so long to try it. Been doing it for about 7 years now and can't get enough of it.

I have 4 Temple Forks and love them. Think they are the best for the money and their warranty is great. I use them on my guide boat and have had a couple broken and they get them back to you in less than a week.

    Love the Tioga reels too.

Floating and intermediate lines are my favorite. Have to fish 750 grain lines in deep water, heavy current rips to be productive, but it is like casting a hose and they are a lot of work to get them down and catching, but needed sometimes if you want to catch.

Think the flyfishing section will grow. Hope we all have a great season.

Really not all that bad. I fish a rip at the end of a rock jetty at the inlet and some times it looks like the River Rapid. You fly doesn't stay in the fish zone very long. This was on a nice calm foggy morning. Water presses against the jetty and forces around the end. Was just starting to run.

I can definitely see where that much weight is needed. If I can't get the fly where it's needed I generally just grab a spinning outfit.

gonna do less of that this year and stick to the fly. I've gotta start using these damn flies I keep tying or open a store.

Nice pic. Won't be too long now.
