Went fishing on the boat yesterday in the morning with Dad, and a co-worker. Crappy current and no fish greeted us. Dad had the high hook on the boat with 4 or 5 fish all <18" I landed one on a 5" Lavender/White BTD.
Well what tide we had stopped, and we headed for the ramp. I had thoughts of fishing the afternoon by myself, but went to the local flyshop to get a few things instead. I remembered I am missing the ceramic in a guide of my 7wt, so I dropped it off at Shore Tackle and Custom rods. Well a simple rod drop off turned into BS session, and next thing you know I've spent an hour casting some custom rods. Well I couldn't resist a new 8wt, and ended up going home with a St. Croix Elite Custom. All Sic guide, stripping guide turned a few degrees to allow better shooting of line, upgraded reel seat w/ removeable but, and a free casting lesson with Joe Cap, a Croix endorsed instructor.
Well after a long day I'm ready to head home and get dinner and a bed.
NOPE.
The bay bridge was closed at around 4:30 from multiple fatality, multiple car pile up involving tractor trailers.
Well I sure as heck wasn't gonna sit in traffic for God knows how many hours. Back to the boat!!
Got out and caught one more small fish, then preceded to ride around for 2 hours without a thing to show for it. I was running low on fuel, and was tired as can be.
So it's 8:00, the boat is put away, and I'm headed west again. NOPE.
Bridge not open yet, and might not be for at least a few hours![]()
Well here's where the lemonade comes in.
I looked in the back, saw a stripping basket and my new 8wt. Ah ha....more fishing.
I spent the next 2 hours bailing <15" striped ones from a pier all alone. Yeah they're only little ones, but multiply that by 50 and it means sore arms. I used the same BTD w/ a 3/0 hook. Gotta love the striper, who else eats stuff 2/3 their size?
Did a small video segment, will see if it's worth uploading.
