Land Based Ulua GT Fishing report 08-08-08. Got strike 15 kg+ on 2nd cast !!

We arrived at the destination on 07-08-08, and spent the night over.

land based fishing tour, monster gt popping, land based popping, rock casting, rock fishing,gt poppingThe early next morning we drive on our 4×4 jeep to destination, few hours later, we arrive at the spot, all guys were quickly set up the camp and then the rest of us after a quick snack leave the camp for fishing. set up gear for minutes then i started testing the water.

1st popper cast, test cast ok.
2nd cast, 3rd cranks playing popper, and strikeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gt run like crazy, pull me 2 steps forward, i stepped back 3 steps and get a sturdy stands to fight this beast.

these gt is no easy surrender, running my PE 6 out of my Okuma Salina 80 with leader 120 lbs flourocarbon,
in seconds i started to gain control the fight, then the leader line, the 120lbs 10 feet leader reached the tip of my popping rod. almost got it, we saw the shadow down below my feet, may about 15+ kilos weight of fish,
all other guys were running toward us with the camera. and the gt run with its all power for the last time,
Man !!!! it run into the rock, my 9 kgs drag setting can not stop it, it broke my leader line. there it goes, gts ran toward it freedom.

then again after a short break we start working the waters, got many missed hooks and miss strike, gt was miss bite the back of the popper.
We released all fishes landed that day.

we release the rest of the fish caught that we will have dinner tonight grilled lamb as plan.

fishing safari, jungle ulua gt fishing, gt fishing, ulua fishing safari, fishing adventurs night fall, we headed back to the camp, and the food coffe and some snack and the story of today became chat of the night, we all then have shower in the nearby creek. dinner with chicken and grilled lamb satay. great day great night great dinner great adventure a great day.

Day02.

started early in the morning, waves and wind is to strong and low tie, while waiting we are enjoying some coffe and snack we bring along, around 10 we start casting, this time we wil bring it back for grilled fish,

Landed and we take a break and taking picture. we need to land the 2nd fish, that today group is around 10 peoples. 2nd fish caught at the same area when even the low tide, a niners kilograms gt.


LBG and boat fishing 19-20 november 2008



Here we go again, addicted by the power of those wild powerful GT pulling out line from its spool, we are out again for chasing those beast !!!

This time we mixed in 3 days that one day are never enough !!!

Biggest landed: 37 kilos GT - 81.4 lbs and released on DAY II

Method: land based popping and boat based
popper: surecatch and home made
reel: Penn & Shimano.
Line class 50 and 80 lbs class with 120 lbs leader.

Results
DAY 01: 4 GTs
DAY 02: 5 GTs & 1 Spanish Mackerel

Day 01.
Leaving port at 2 pm, we are all silent thinking of the fights we will encounter with those GTs, all of our trip never been no results so far.
An hour goes by, we are at our favorite fishing spots.
Poppers are ready, on mostly PE 8 and PE 6 line class,

1st cast - none
2nd cast - none !
3rd cast - none !!!
4th cast - missed hook !!!
5th cast - damn !!!!!!!!! … hoked up !!!!!
i can see the GT jumps while swallow my popper, my rods bentttttttttttttt …
reel screammsssss… all fellow angler start to support me with their yells.
wow, it became the first strike today, GTs try to run into the rock, i add more drags to the spool, then again after 10 minutes Gt surrender, an 18 kilos GT on board. take pictures, all the guys did, then i said to the GT,” i will see you again when you got bigger… hahahahha….’
not long,
my fellow angler next to me got his strike. the 2nd strike today, leaving me sat down on the deck exhausted. he finishes the fight as quick as i was, only this one little bit smaller than mine.

The 3rd Gt suddenly strike again…. then the 4rth, duddeeeeeeeeeeeeee its a gts craze !!!
only stay at the spot for 1.5 hours then we have to go back before 16:00 because it gets too dark if we late.

DAY 02.
2 teams heading the spots at 07:00
the cruise takes 1.5 hours on our boat. Team A on popping Team B on trolling
Team a today got the biggest GT, a 37 kilos has been landed. result for day 02.
Team A; 4 Gts with the biggest 37 kilos / 80+ lbs
Team B; 1 Gts and 1 spanish mackerel.
