    Lake Texoma finally heating up...

After a very long winter, and slowly rising lake temperatures, the bite is finally turning on down on Lake Texoma. My buddy James Allen is getting his guys on fish, and after months of a non existent bite, the Strippers are in the mood to feed. Obviously, these are not the same class fish you'll find on the coast, but, the lake has a healthy, replenishing population with a liberal catch limit of 10 per day, with 2 allowed over 20", and are loads of fun on light tackle. In addition to the Strippers, there are plenty of Large Mouth Bass, Hybrid Bass, White Bass, Channel Cats, and Drum to be caught.

James has had no problems finding them...it's the biting that's been difficult to say the least. I think we're about finished with the really cold weather, so, the catching should pick up. The Drum was 15lbs...a chunk for sure.

I've had 3 trips cancelled in the last month becuase of the "lock jaw"...everyone could find the fish, but, they had a very hard time getting them to bite. I agree...I have empty freezer space just waiting for those filets.

If the warm weather holds, AND, we can get some rain. First few hard rain's usually get's the feeder rivers flowing and typically triggers the spawn. Good news is even though it was a rough weather, precipitation wise, there weren't as many real cold days. Last year was colder and there was a significant Shad die off. It was so bad at one point, both OK and TX were stocking shad in the lake. Guides are telling me bait is in abundance...should be a good summer!!!
