Kayak shark attack
A kayak fisherman was knocked out of his Pinnacle Fishing Ski after paddling out to sea with three friends to hunt some Geelbek.
Werner Coetzee recently moved to Port Elizabeth to take up a new business position, he is an avid kayak fisherman and has been deep sea fishing since he was six years old.

Werner and his three friends launched at Noordhoek beach at dawn, they paddled out together and settled a few hundred feet from each other, to get ready for their day.
The shark hit Werner whilst he was getting his anchor out from his boat. He only noticed the shark once the attack was in progress. He and the front of his boat were hit 2.5m out of the water, he landed back in the water and the kayak fell next to him. At this moment he realised he had been hit by a massive 4 m great white shark. He said the shark hit him from below, the same way they attack a seal.
He managed to get himself into the hull and waited for the shark to hit again, but nothing happened. Werner felt he was saved by the sharks initial bite into the kayak, fibreglass obviously isn’t his favourite meal.
His fishing friends had realised what was happening and paddled over to him, there was also a motor boat nearby and they came over to assist as well.
They loaded his dented kayak onto the boat and moved towards the shore with the other kayak angler’s close by for safety. He lost two rods and his sunglasses, nothing compared to his life. He said that he didn’t have time to be scared, but afterwards the reality hit and he was shaken.
