I mentioned a while back that I was getting a 9ft St. Croix Triumph 8wt fly rod and reel combo. Well It came yesterday. I have a huge learning curve to tackle. It came with line on the reel as well as a leader. I thought hte leader was a little thin and then when I looked closer I realized that it was tapered. As mentioned before I have a learning huge learning curve.

On a seperate note, I did not like the size of the knot used to tie the leader and the flyline together. It seems a little on the big side. Had to really pull it to get through the guides. Any advice on a good knot to use to join the leader and the flyline?

Sorry i did not get over this evening but will make it this weekend. Need to figure out what you want for flies and teach you to tie, I have lots of material and an extra vise. And we will fix that leader issue. Time to go for the pups and stripers!
