How many flies...
I personally just got into fly tying again and have been tying up aton on these old cold nights. I just noticed at how many damn flies ive accumulated within the last month or two. Seems i should be set for years
Just to get some talk going..How many flies do you all tie up a year? Or better yet how many flies do you think you probably own.
Lets see some cool pics

I have no idea on how many a year, Roanoke River 20 dozen or so and about that many for False Albacore @ Harkers. Drum, AJs, Cobia, Spanish, Atl. Bonito and the rest maybe another 40 dozen. It keeps me busy all year...people wonder why I don't tie for shops.
Dozen @ the time...pre color

90 dregee block of wood with a piece of foam works great for drying clousers.

Hard to tell how many flies I tie in a year. Never seem to ever get close to running out of flies. Probably could leave most of them at home as I never use them. Stripers that I fish for never seem to be very picky. They always hit clousers, decievers, poppers, mullets, and bunker flies and find I could do without bringing so many flies with me. I have a friend that fishes with me and we rarely use the same size or color or type of fly and we both seem to catch. Stripers will hit anything.
Weakfish or Trout as they are called south of Cape May are a little more selective and color and size is more important and find I have work a little to find what they will hit best.
During the year I have to force myself to use certain flies. It is almost like a personal challenge to see if they will catch and when the blues are around I use my ugliest or beat up flies to justify bringing them along and when they get toally chewed up they can be tied over.
As for tying I am get caught up in. I see a new pattern that I like, tie some up and use them. I enjoy making all the different varieties, but basically believe any decent baitfish pattern will catch.
I find I catch on a certain pattern and beat it to death. Had one bunker fly that I was using this fall that must of caught 50 fish. I fished day after day and never changed and it still looks good.
What I hate most is getting excited about a pattern, tying a mess of flies during the winter in a few sizes and colors and then find at the end of the season I never tried them once.
Bottom line is I think most of us make and take way too many flies with us. Maybe that is part of our addiction. Beside what will we ever do with all those fly tying materials we bought.
