    Good day in the surf...

Went out to Fort Fisher (drive on) area yesterday for a day of fun in the sun...I had my new 11' surf rod for some live baiting and my 8' spinning gear for bottom fishing...I had a 1/2 pound of shrimp and caught some good sized finger mullet in the surf and got to fishing...after the surf rod was out I got to bottom fishing and caught a very nice spot and a pompano that probably went 3/4 of a pound to a pound and in the cooler they went...then the surf rod bends over and I'm reeling in a 2 pound bluefish...the day was pretty steady after that on the surf rod with 7 bluefish being caught and all but two released...a mans gotta eat ya know...bottom fishing really slowed down as it went to slack tide but I did manage a few more small pompano and two sand sharks...one of which was probably 2 1/2 feet long...if this isn't the best day I have had surf fishing it darn sure isn't far off...and I'm hoping with the weather getting cooler it will continue to get better...

Sorry there are not any pictures because we were starving when we got home and I quickly cleaned them and on the grill they went...it was a fish smorgasboard with some grilled zucchini and yellow squash...

I'm not sure thats the proper name for them...all the ones I have caught are between 1' to 2 1/2' long...mouth full of little razors and sand colored...they do fight good on light tackle though so I don't mind catching them every now and then...

We have a couple of sharks we call sand sharks, most of them are dogfish. Smooth dogfish= no teeth and spiny dogfish =teeth and a nasty spine behind the dorsal(caught in cooler times).
Also some people clump brown sharks, duskies, sand tigers and most inshore species as sand sharks. Peace
