    Flying WITH rods??

Anyone taken a rod on an airline laely? Did you have a hassle?

Reason I ask is because I tried taking the fly rod on a trip a few years ago, had it in a metal tube. On the flight out, they made me check it. At the arrival airport I had to wait over an hour for ALL of my checked bags because they went through special security. (Why this affected them coming OFF the plane I have no clue.) For the return trip I was told that the metal tube was a no go, fortunately I had another plastic one I was bringing back and the rod fit in. Since then, I shipped it ahead when I could. Shipping back is a pain in the tail, and I would rather not, but will if it is still a hassle to take them on the plane.

Many go to the 4 pc rods so they can take them as carry on and put them in the over head. They tell me that is the best way. They can also go in suitcase. Good if they don't lose your luggage.
