With the cooler air temperatures and falling water temperatures, the fly fishing opportunities are wide open in the Morehead City Cape Lookout area. The fly fishing for redfish is really picked up with the northeast mullet blows that we have had rrecently. All black Clouser minnows with gold krystal flash have been my best producer. Gray and white with gold krystal flash has been a hot second. The smaller false albacore are all over the beaches right now. Usually when the smaller 4 to 7 ol. albies show up, they don't readily take flies. This season is is very different. The albies are taking small Clousers, baitfish patterns and candies tied on #4 and #6 hooks. Tan and white as well as olive and white with pearl krystal flash have been taking good numbers of albies. 7 weight rods are perfect for both the albies and the reds.
I really looks like this upcoming fall fishing season is going to be red hot here at the Cape Lookout area. With the amount of bait in the ocean already I am looking for one of those classic albacore and redfish falls like we use to have a few years back. Our fly fishing for Spanish mackerel and king mackerel and amberjacks should be very good as well. Anyone needing information on the fall fishing, just e-mail or give us a call.
