Nice job with the croaker. The bait guys here love them to eat and do not consider them great sport, but on a fly rod they are great fighters and make excellent sport. They put up a great fight for their size. Find small clousers and sinking line work well in about 10 feet of water up here.

    Congrats!!!

Still looking to land one with the fly rod. I think they are a blast to catch because of the great fight the little guys provide.

WTG man!! They pull like little freight trains..

I took my buddy from up North striper fishing in the bay years ago. we caught some real nice stripers up to 28 inches. He hooked into a fish and started saying that he has a monster. A little while later, he pulls in a horse croaker about 19 inches. He says, "What the hell is this thing?" I said, "That's a croaker." He looks at me...looks at the fish... and says "Do they get bigger and how do we catch more of them?"

Under rated fish that is great sport on the fly.

They have fairly small mouths and feed close to the bottom. Best way is to make sure your fly is close to the bottom. Working it slow along the bottom seems to really work well. 2 inch clousers in almost any color will work. We also get a lot of weakies and fluke the same way. They fight well and you would swear it is a bigger fish on there.

i used a white clouser with a little bit of green. it looked like a squid strip. we had other lines with squid on them so they probobly made it a little easier.
