Now that's what i'm talking about!!! Sweet pic. JMS
JMS I rmember the other post that you wrote and you were telling us that you were saving the minnows in your aquarium.Funny Stuff. How long is the life expectancy for them? Also are those minnows called cocahoes, well that's what we call them down south. We use them for specks, reds, flounder.
The Life expectancy...I would say becomes very short around JMS.Despite pristine aquarium water and plentiful food. These minnows develop a disease very similar to "Hole in the Head" called "Hole in the lips". The peculiar thing about the way the disease shows around JMS's tank is the holes always line up perfect with each other
, rather than being spread out randomly as in most circumstances. ALMOST LIKE A HOOK WENT THROUGH THEIR LIPS. and they inevitably disappear very soon after showing symptoms.

Tenacious, we call them Gudgeons or Bull Gudgeons. I like COCAHOES much better.![]()
life expectancy....i dont know, they dont stay around long enough to die of natural causesOriginally Posted by Tenacious
. hole in da head usually gets them, as does crab claw, flounder tooth, drum crusher, etc. i guess they are the same as your cocahoe.....they are known by many names.....mud minnow, gudgeon, killifsh, mummichog.....many species but they all fall under the genus Fundulus.
as for keeping them in the aquarium.....i currently have about 4 dozen in a 20 gallon tank, which is too many but i havent had a single one die. the water quality cant be good....i havent done a water change in way more than a month. they seem to be happy, with voracious appetites. they are tough little suckers.
no flounder at lunch......

Jeez... that is one toothy critter! I've learned to keep my fingers out of most fishes mouths But I can't resist giving kisses to to first caught of a species (except shark.... I don't want any tender bits near them)
Cathy, You are so loving!!!
