Casting for blues from the shore

After many tips into the marshes of the middle sounds, nc area I produced nothing on the fly rod. There are some reds but most are in the inland creeks, I think. Anyways, after a good trip last fri (still no fish with the fly rod) I get back to my house and am eating lunch on my deck overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. What do I see?? Blues tearing the bait up on shore. So, yes, I get my fly rod and a good glass minnow fly and to go casting from shore. Ended up catching a few blues right there from shore. I'm heading back this weekend....hope ill have a fishing report come Sunday.

Anyone have any suggestions for "from shore" casts to blues and such?
Flies to use?
Stripping techniques? Fast, slow, intermittent?

What a deal!!
I have only ever targeted blues so far with spin tackle - so the one piece of advice is the faster the retrieve the better. They attack a fleeing target. I have tied epoxy minnows for blues if I stumble across them this fall.

I like a crease fly for those situations that I can strip with gusto. Gold for peanut bunker, silver for other small bait.

Should work down there as it does up here. Try to fish moving water. Points along a sod ban or creek mouth. Cast cross current. If you are getting bites and no hook ups you can try using a jiggie flie as they have a longer shank hook. You can even cut the fly down to the end of the hook. Early mornings and evening seem to be best too. Like it was said blues like a pretty fast retrive too. Wish you luck and hope you get some.
