Holy Carp Crap, Capt!!
Can you eat them? We have them down here in the Pepacton Reservior that I fish. I never thought of targeting them. How do they fight? I always thought they where bottom feeders. My wife tail hooked one. I saw gold and thought it was a record smallie.
Very nice, what did you get that grass carp to eat? There is a pond with them in it down here and they seriously look like logs....got a few that have to be pushing 50 lbs, but they are super spooky and wont touch corn or dough baits like common carp.
Wow, looks like some fun. I remember catching them on dough baits when I was a kid in the Delaware River. Being interesting hearing how you go about getting them on the fly. Don't know if the same techniques work in tidal waters. Nice Fish!

Holy Carp.
I think I caught two of these today. I was fishing the Suskie in Oneonta NY during the heat of the day. Water was low slow and dirty. I generally catch smallies in this spot. Both fish hit a #3 gold blue fox. They didn't hit real hard but both fought good. Both fish where about 18" long and thick. They looked kind of like carp but both had fish mouths. They where goldish and had trianglear scales.
Jerry, the bait shop man at Goodyear Lake said it might be an Otsego Lake Bass. After looking again at the first post I say no. I can't beleive carp have fish mouths and take trout lures!!
