Late Feb/ Early March is always my time to fill my box for the upcoming season.
Had some Farrar blend laying on the table from tying some bunker last year and figured I'd try a different technique.
The bunker caught a few fish last year, but there are still 4 of them ready for action, so why make more?
Anyway. I looked around and figured I'd try something different
It's a 2/0 Gami spinnerbait hook.

Bucktail and Farrar blend.
Started the bucktail BTD style for one tie in, then started adding the Farrar and bucktail on the top and bottom of each tie in. Got sparser w/ the FB as I went on.
Last tie in is "hollow".
Used some Olive sharpie to darken the back a little.
Finished w/ 3-D molded eyes and some plastidip covered w/ hard as hull.
Used a very little softex to hopefully keep the farrar from acting up.
Couldn't catch a mess of fish at sea world with a dip net.

Pretty fly. Looks good.
One of our local shops down here is having a 50% off fly fishing stuff sale. I picked up some stuff yesterday. Not sure it is what I needed but at $.50 a pack for feathers, maribou, some kind of yellow wool lookng stuff and 5/32 fly eyes. I couldn't resist. Also picked up a 30 yard spool of Cortland sinking fly line for about $10.
I hope to start tying some stuff soon. I just need to get up with fishsalmon so he can show me the basics.
Great looking Fly Dave. I love that Steve Farra Blend material. I was using it for differenr size and color flies all fall. Flies made with it cast well and have great action in the water. Bought a mess of it at Somerset and love working with it.
The bucktail on the bottom might be a good way to keep the blend from fouling on the hook. When I use all blend I use the soft tex or what ever and bring it back to a little past the hook so the blend doesn't hang on the hook as easily.
