These fish usually show up in late July when we get a push of seventy and eighty pounders for a few weeks. After that these thirty five to fifty pounders come in through september, and the big ones come back through late sept- late october. We chase the breaking fish only for the most part, but the troll bite is excellent as well. We use 14 wt rods and abel and tibor reels loaded with 500+ yards of 50 lb spectra backing to the Rio Leviathan series of flylines which we developed because of the 65 lb core. Leaders are simple 6-9ft of 25-50lb flouro depending on the size of the fish and bait. Flies can be 3" to over 10 depending on the bait. This year we had four or five different baits they would key on day to day, from 10" halfbeaks(our ballyhoo) to three inch sandeels. Some days we are as little as a mile off the beach, and some days we run forty just to get to the action. About 80% of the time we get at least one hookup per day, our best day this year was 14 landed at 50-60 lbs. These things are great fun on a 30lb spin outfit and a popper as well!. Thanks for the response, we have a lot more footage of this that needs some editing, so I'll try to put up new stuff as it gets done. Thanks Again Nat
