    Beaufort SC

    Hi All,
I will be in Beaufort SC from Christmas to the 1st of the year visiting my son who is in the Marine Corps and is stationed there. Is there any fishing to be had this time of the year? He has basically learned very little about the fishing in the year or so that he has been there. He has been out kingfishing a couple of times on his Staff Sergeant's boat, but that's about it. Any help would be appreciated. It's been too long since I was able to fish with my boy.
    Thanks,
    Chip

Hi Chip and welcome to the shallow water world...
You should find the Trout wanting to play then as well as some slow Red Drum ( Redfish). I recomend tha you get a guide as he will know where the fish hang at that time of the year...
    MirrOlure when big fish count!

The trout fishing should be real good then. I'd be sight fishing to the hundreds of schooled up reds though. No need to leave the Broad River. Mid-morning low tide so you can find the fish and the sun can warm the mud and oysters so they will get happy and eat in the afternoons. That is a fun area but it can kick up in a hurry!

Danny Rourke(Tailwind Charters) or Jess Haynes(Redfish Charters) would be two guides to try.

    Hurricane,
Thanks for taking the time to post that advice. Sounds like there are a couple of options for that time of the year. My son and I are used to fishing for dorado, sailfish and marlin in the Sea of Cortez down in Mexico, so this will be a new experience.
    Thanks,
    Chip

    I don't think a 5 pound trout is going to hold a candle to a marlin....good luck!

If i were going to fish up there this time of year i would go over to bluffton and launch at aljoy boat ramp. Go straight across to bull creek. It will take you over to cooper river. Once there fish the high shell bank across the river. Any of the mouths of the small creeks where they go dry on low tide is good for reds. The reds hang out there waiting to get back in the feeder creeks. I've been there on a 20 mph noreaster and still find a place to fish. The river is not very wide and the wind don't bother you like it does over at broad river.
