August Fishing Reports from Cape May

Striper fishing has been a tough. Even with the warm water the beach front, inlet and back bays have stayed pretty cool from 66 to 72 for the most part. Seems to be the same problem as last year. An overall lack of decent size bait and abundance. If going after the stripers, you have to work much harder than past years. Y ou really have to do a lot of searching and covering a lot of area to get a few fish.

Another fish we are not seeing is the bluefish. They seem to not be around as in past years. They would at least fill in the gaps between striper hits.

The only hot bit is fluke on jig heads with gulp or clousers fished on the bottom for fly anglers. Like everywhere you have to catch a mess just to get a keeper size one.

Some Pictures from the past week.

Still catching stripers on flies and light tackle spin gear. The key is either early morning or sunset into the dark or after dark. Just have to stick with it and search till you find some. Most are schoolie throw back size but still a lot of fun on the flyrod or light tackle.

Still catching lots of fluke, but finding a keeper is still hard as you have to go through a lot of short ones for every keeper. Gulp baits on jig head has provided the best action.

Starting to see some croakers and small sea bass in the mix but most are on the small size.

Here are some pictures from the past week.
