3rd time a charm?
Well here it is. What do ya'll think? I switched the colors and put the wrap on the proper side of the head this time. I made another one that is similar but used olive instead of red. didn't get a pic of that one though.
Here is the crab pattern I plan on tying for the swap. I need to do a little triming but this is basically it.
top view.
bottom view.
Actually the crab will ride point up so the top is the bottom and bottom is the top.
Just a tip on the crab.. you can comb out the fibers to create an even body.. I use a .99c comb from cvs. Turn the fly hook down and comb the fibers away.. it'll look like this..
That's all you have to do.
FWIW.. crab patterns with yarn bodies are a PITA!!!! I think yours turned out great man.. Just giving you tips.
Also... what you are learning carries over to tons of other patterns..
Look at this toad.. one of the newer tarpon patterns that has been found to catch just about anything that swims. Another neutrally buoyant fly drifts well ...
Now that you know how to do the body.. change a few materials for the tail and you have a toad.. That's how you learn. In fly tying, everything builds on something else. You are on your way bud!!!
The journey begins...
Great job!!! Look at the pictures of your three flies and notice how much improvement was made. If you can improve that much in three flies, then think of how good you will get aftering tying 12. You are well on your way...can't wait to get one of those crab patterns.
